The project consists of the rehabilitation of a street level local to transform it into the new space of Ezequiel Pini and his creative studio Six N. Five. A space with multiple uses, mainly used as an office, but also as a showroom to exhibit objects. Adding an area for presentations, a small workshop to produce small prototypes, a leisure and virtual reality area, and also a specialized coffee area. In summary, a multidisciplinary space open to the city with small cultural proposals. The space is located in Barcelona, in Poblenou, in a first floor “L” shaped space with an extensive terrace at the back.
The program consisted of an exhibition area, a cafeteria area, storage, a main work area with an isolated rack, a small workshop and also a meeting room with kitchen. The first decision was to clean the premises of all existing partitions and false ceilings to revalue the original concrete structure, and in this way show the real volume of the space. The diversity of spaces to be distributed and the imposing height, allowed us to generate a space in an upper area to house the workshop and storage area. This mezzanine also allows us to separate the public area from the more private area of the space.
The private area is composed of the studio, the workshop, the leisure area, and the meeting room which is also the kitchen. All these spaces are connected to a large terrace, which in addition to giving beautiful views to a large planter full of plants. It also allows a very special evening sunlight to enter this space. The space was intended as a large architectural sanctuary where the imprint of craftsmanship was very present. The color earth was chosen to reinforce this idea of materiality and micro-cement is transformed on the floor and in the work elements and the walls with the same tone with an irregular plaster base. The loft can be closed with curtains at the top and at the bottom, thus not only providing different degrees of privacy but also providing an element to divide the different areas.
This space is structured around the large main table, finished with micro cement. An element made on site, which also reinforces the process and concept of craftsmanship above all. This table can accommodate up to six 3D artists, which with the computers in the rack area means that there are no cables and computers in sight. The chairs are Herman Miller's Aeron chairs. On the wall there is a large bookshelf, which looks great as a backdrop to the large workbench. Here there are books, prototypes and objects related to the work and inspiration and the imaginary world of Six N. Five.
Upon entering the space, we find a large concrete step, which crosses the entire space until it reaches the end. An architectural element that in all its dimension, not only serves to exhibit objects but also to sit while waiting for the coffee, or to receive the public that comes to see a talk or exhibition given by a guest. To the right, and under a structural arch of the building, is the coffee space with a mirrored bar with a stainless steel countertop. In the public area, there is also a Three Marks Coffee corner, which makes every visit more pleasant and warm with its specialized coffee. The mezzanine can be closed with curtains both at the top and at the bottom, providing not only different degrees of privacy but also an element to divide the different areas.
