The intervention aims to design a workspace through elements influenced by the existing architecture. A raw space where the concrete structure is exposed in its most natural state. We experimented with the counterpoint of the elegance and sophistication of the elements that structure the space, treated as true sculptures made of stainless steel, the staircase that bridges the verticality of the space and the kitchen in its horizontality. These elements are inspired by the digital world of Andrés Reisinger, and evoke a surreal, dreamlike and sculptural space.
The project consists of the transformation of a ground floor space into a workspace for Andres Reisinger and his creative studio. A multifunctional workspace, intended to offer a work area, kitchen, dining room, terrace, a private office and other utilities.
A multifunctional space, intended to offer a work area, kitchen, dining room, terrace, a private office and other utilities. The space is located in Barcelona, in the Poblenou neighborhood. With direct access from the street and a large back terrace. Upon entering, the space has a double ceiling that directs the view to the second floor. The first decision was to demolish the back half of the second floor, thus transforming the existing volume composed of two floors with low ceilings, to a large open space with a mezzanine that stands out as an architectural element, and lets in more natural light.
The materiality of the walls and floor was chosen to match the raw hues and textures of the existing concrete. First the color and texture of the walls was chosen, finished with a quartz-based paint in paste form DETALE CPH. This paint provides an irregular, handcrafted look, with a smooth velvet touch reminiscent of the existing materials. With a gray-beige tone matching the concrete structure and ceiling. Through this material, microcement was chosen to have the same tone and textured effect, creating a monochromatic world.
Lighting in the studio is achieved through unconventional methods. The only technical lighting is present in the first double-height space as you enter the studio from the street, with LEDs C4 dimmable track and spotlights. The rest of the illumination of the space is achieved by strategically placed linestras in selected spaces. However, the main luminaire of the space is the 120 cm diameter spherical lamp; “Luna” by Davide Groppi, which hangs from the double-height ceiling of the studio. It has a crumpled paper texture, which when illuminated from the interior light source, resembles the moon. It gives a soft, calming light that completely changes the ambiance of the studio at night. The moonlight spreads throughout the studio, including the mezzanine, creating a surreal and dreamlike atmosphere, which resembles the work of Andrés Reisinger.
In the area below the mezzanine we find the kitchen, made entirely of stainless steel and with a fully integrated hydraulic manufactured by Fusteria J Vidal. Accompanying the table in this dining area we find the chrome metal stools custom designed by Julia Esque.
With the same microcement finish as the interior, the terrace is a relaxing and zen space. With a partition of forest-like plants that separate the busy outdoor environment from the dreamlike indoor environment. Through the use of various typologies of wild forest-like plants curated by AELAND, this separation of worlds was achieved. Sunlight filters through the different heights and shapes of the plants, creating organic, flowing shadows on the interior floor. The terrace and the use of long translucent white curtains on both facades act as a barrier between the digital dreamscape of the interior and the outside world.
The work zone of the table overlooks the patio where there is more tranquility and light, with large windows breaking the boundary between indoors and outdoors.
In the double height area that is closest to the street, we placed the spiral staircase that leads to the loft where Andrés' workplace is located. The staircase is one of the most emblematic pieces of the project. It had to be brought from a single polished piece and placed on site as if it was a sculpture. On the second floor a small corridor leads to the courtesy bathroom, the door of which, being curved, disappears integrated into the architecture.
The fully glassed office is composed of a large custom designed table in natural oak finish, accompanied by the LC7 armchairs from Cassina, and a sofa with pink cushions, just like the concrete table. The intentional use of furniture and lighting that does not follow the normal office aesthetic, gives the studio a more comfortable feel. Creating a space that seems dreamlike, serene and surreal. Merging the lines between the physical world and the digital world. From this space we access the bathroom that has plenty of natural light thanks to a large frosted glass that delimits the sink and shower.
