Origo has landed in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, offering bread made with stone-ground flours, sourdough and prolonged fermentations, always accompanied by a good coffee or matcha tea. Founded by François de Halleux in 2018, Origo was born from the desire to return to the essence of bread, a staple food whose nutritional richness has been compromised by industrialization. The name “Origo”, which means “origin” in Latin, symbolizes this quest for authenticity, presenting a healthy and nutritious bread, far removed from artificial modern solutions.
This project captivated us from the first moment for its authenticity. To start designing with such clearly defined concepts that represent the essence of the brand is a real luxury. History, transparency and craftsmanship are at the heart of Origo. Furthermore, these principles are also fundamental to us as a studio, we appreciate the beauty of the simple and the dedication to craftsmanship, which is reflected in every aspect of Origo.
The project is divided into two large areas: the workshop and the retail store. With two entrances from the street, one gives access to the store, while the other has a large window overlooking the workshop. The elongated and narrow shape of the shop posed a challenge that turned into an opportunity: the long, prominent and architectural work counter becomes the central element of the space, where all the breads and pastries are displayed. Next to it, a coffee bar in stained iroko and stainless steel top brings warmth and blends perfectly with the environment. These are illuminated with a composition of six stainless steel lamps from Frama.
Origo's design brings to the forefront the craftsmanship and dedication behind each product. It is an honest and simple space that seeks serenity through natural materials and handmade elements. A large sculptural element, which serves as a bread display, symbolizes the heart of the space. Here, visitors can not only enjoy fresh products, but also witness the elaboration process, promoting an immersive experience that goes beyond the simple purchase. This bakery, designed by Isern Serra, preserves the essence of tradition and quality, creating an immersive environment where visitors can appreciate the process and dedication behind each product.
The single-color architectural coating in earth tones evokes the color of wheat, while the hand-applied ecoclay walls add texture and unique nuances. At the end of the store is an agora where users can sample the products, either at a high, micro-cemented counter with Frama stools or at a large, built-in tiered seating area with large windows that allow them to watch the bakers in action, creating an immersive experience. This area is illuminated with Serax sconces, a concrete luminaire with a very geometric shape.
The goal was to make visitors feel part of the bakery. This space stands out for its terracotta tiled walls and a terracotta resin floor, full of ovens, mixers and work tables, all of them in stainless steel that stand out in that monochrome terracotta stain.
The terracotta color, which defines the interior, also extends to the entrances. Before entering, visitors find a small outdoor area with a floor and bench covered in terracotta tiles and walls textured in the same tone. Origo is not just a place to buy bread; it is a tribute to tradition and quality, where every visit is a celebration of authenticity.
